Japan Day 21: The Island of Odaiba

I had so much fun today! Two Showa students showed us (two other Harvard interns and I) around Odaiba, a manmade island popular for shopping and entertainment. There were so many things on the island (a beach, an indoor amusement park, several malls, a wax museum, and more)! It was a spectacularly sunny day, great for going out. We first went to a trick art museum, which is an interactive museum in which you can create different illusions with the art there.
The museum was absolutely great! For ¥900, it was definitely worth taking so many great photos, and seeing cool art. Below, you can see me trapped by a vampire, and my friends about to fall to a grave fate!
We also went to take purikura (Japanese photo-booth pictures), and it was definitely a strange experience. The photo-booths were very high tech, with built in photoshop functions (to make your skin clearer and eyes bigger and also to add stickers). It was a lot of fun taking them! Afterward, we walked around the island and saw some sights (including a giant gundam, the Fujifilm building, and a replica of the Statue of Liberty). The rainbow ferris wheel on the island is pictured below; it was so pretty on such a sunny day!
According to our Japanese friends, Flying Tiger (a Danish store) recently opened on the island. Since Odaiba is so popular for tourists, I was really surprised to find that everything in the store was cheap and stylish! They would definitely make a lot of profit if the store branches out to the U.S. I bought a lot of cute stuff that I can't wait to bring back home! Overall, today was a wonderful day, and I had a a great time on this artificial island!
